Film Diaries - March 19
This month was a roller coaster and that's why my film diary is so long (Oops!). I went to Portugal for work and while I was there I was treated with two unexpected sunny days that allowed me to enjoy the beach, swim in the sea and get a little tan. I also went to two incredible exhibits, one by Tracey Emin, another by Martin Parr and, to finish the month on a high note, Anita came to visit me while Martin was away on a shoot. I said this before, but it gives me great pleasure to shoot on film. I feel that thanks to the limited number of photos I am allowed to take, I am much more precise. As you know, I don't edit any of these photos and I publish almost every shot I take. Sometimes I wonder why is it that we no longer think the photos we take are perfect exactly as they are. Maybe a lot of my readers don't remember how exciting it used to be to pick up the developed photos of your holidays for instance. Instant gratification is all too rife with digital photography these days. Thus, by doing this diary, I feel that I'm not only more present but I also get a greater reward when looking at the photos I take.
Este mês foi um corrupio daí o diário analógico ser tão longo (Oops!). Fui a Portugal em trabalho e pelo meio fui brindada com dois dias de verão que me permitiram matar saudades do mar e ganhar um corzinha. Fui a duas exposições incríveis, uma da Tracey Emin outra do Martin Parr e, para terminar o mês em grande, ainda tive a visita da minha querida amiga Anita. Dá-me um prazer enorme fotografar em filme, sinto que graças ao número reduzido de fotografias que me é permitido tirar por rolo acabo por ser muito mais precisa. Como sabem, não faço qualquer edição nestas fotografias e publico quase todas as que tiro. Às vezes pondero sobre a razão pela qual deixámos de achar que as fotografias que tiramos são perfeitas exactamente como são. Se calhar muitos dos que me leem não se lembram da experiência excitante que era ir buscar as fotografias reveladas depois das férias. A gratificação instantânea do digital matou um bocadinho essa magia, portanto fazer este exercício tem me permitido não só estar mais presente mas também a sentir uma recompensa maior ao rever as fotografias que vou tirando.
