Cornwall Travel Guide
I like the sea so much that I hear music in its sound. Although here the ocean presents itself a little grumpy, I recognise in its wave-like licks, my old childhood friend. In Port Isaac there are no traces of impurity, the wind dances freely, hunchbacks houses, slams doors and dishevels those who open them. Inside the centennial pubs, with a Guinness beer in hand, cradled by the singing of the wonderful Fisherman's friends, I found the true definition of warmth. It was in this village that our friends, Emily and Charlie, over 6 years ago exchanged promises of eternal love. Two children later, they have included us in their annual trip to the quay from which their ship departed. I have always thought the most romantic places are those where the waves fall uninterruptedly, the shoes melt into the mud and the sky swallows the light. After all, the true purpose of a storm is to push two lovers into each other's arms.
Gosto tanto do mar que oiço música no seu ruído. Embora aqui se apresente, de acordo com a cultura, mais rabujento, reconheço nas suas lambidelas em forma de onda o meu velho amigo de infância. Em Port Isaac não há vestígios de impureza, o vento dança livre, atropela humanos, encorcunda casas, bate portas e despenteia quem por elas sai. Dentro dos pubs centenários, de cerveja Guiness na mão, embalada pelos cantares dos famosos Fisherman's friends, encontrei a verdadeira definição de aconchego. Foi nesta vila que os nossos amigos, Emily e Charlie, há mais de 6 anos trocaram promessas de amor eterno. Dois filhos depois, incluíram-nos na viagem que fazem anualmente ao cais de onde partiu o seu navio. Sempre achei que os locais mais românticos são aqueles despidos de glamour, onde as ondas do mar tombam ininterruptamente, os sapatos se afundam na lama e o céu engole a luz. Afinal, o verdadeiro propósito das tempestades, é empurrar dois amantes para os braços um do outro.
CORNWALL TRAVEL GUIDE:
The tips I will give you here have been curated by our friends Emily and Charlie who have visited Cornwall countless times. Emily is a television producer, so her organizational skills were extremely helpful during this trip. She kindly booked all the restaurants and scheduled our days, and truth be told, it felt great to have someone else lead the way.
As dicas que aqui vos vou dar foram providenciadas pelos os nossos amigos Emily e Charlie que já foram dezenas de vezes a Cornwall. A Emily é produtora de televisão, portanto os seus skills organizacionais foram extremamente úteis durante esta viagem. Foi ela quem se encarregou de marcar todos os restaurantes e organizar os nossos dias e, verdade seja dita, soube-me muito bem não ter de me preocupar com nada.
WHEN TO GO:
Despite being a very popular summer destination our friends say they prefer to visit Cornwall during low season. It's calmer, cheaper and cosier. Of course, some touristic attractions are not open during the winter, but if you just want to chill, go for long walks, a massage, eat well and spend your evenings in the pub playing cards or darts with your friends, then I'm sure you'll love wintery Cornwall.
Apesar de ser um destino muito popular durante o verão os nossos amigos dizem que preferem visitar Cornwall durante a época baixa. É calmo, barato e acolhedor. É claro que algumas atrações turísticas não estão abertas durante o inverno, mas se pretendes descansar, fazer longas caminhadas, ir a uma massagem, comer bem e a passar a noite no pub a jogar às cartas ou aos dardos com amigos então tenho a certeza que adorarás Cornwall no Inverno.
WHAT TO WEAR:

WHERE TO STAY:
Port Isaac is really wonderful so, if you can, I recommend you to find accommodation in this village. Most of the houses are holiday rentals, they are so adorable and perfect for a couple or a small group of people. Airbnb offers a lot of options.
Not far from Port Isaac, in Port Quinn, there is a castle. For real, a one-bedroom castle! It's called Doyden Castle, it's a little expensive but it's incredibly beautiful. You have to consider there is nothing around it but, if you ask me, as long as you stock up the fridge I think this is the perfect place to spend a few romantic days.
I also suggest staying at the Port Gaverne Hotel, which is also a pub. It's very cosy and, furthermore, it welcomes your four-legged friends too.
Port Isaac é realmente amoroso por isso recomendo que encontrem alojamento nessa zona. A maior parte das casinhas da vila são alojamento local e são ideais para um casal ou um grupo pequeno de pessoas. O Airbnb tem imensas opções.
Não muito longe de Port Isaac, mais concretamente em Port Quinn, há um castelo, sim um castelo de verdade, com apenas um quarto. Chama-se Doyden Castle, é um bocadinho caro mas é surrealmente bonito. No entanto há que considerar que não há nada em redor do castelo, mas desde que se abasteçam de comida creio que este é o sitio ideal para passar umas férias bem românticas.
Sugiro também ficar no Hotel Port Gaverne. Um hotel que é também um pub. É muito acolhedor e, para além disso, os vossos amigos de quatro patas são bem-vindos.
WHAT TO DO:
Go for long walks. The walk from Port Isaac to Port Quinn is amazing. It's a bit challenging and long, therefore Emily drove us to Port Quinn and then went back to Port Isaac, we started the walk from opposite ends and met halfway.
Visit Watergate Bay beach, Polzeth beach and Rock beach.
Visit Tintagel castle.
Book a massage at the Cowshed's SPA at the St. Moritz hotel.
Eat, read and disconnect.
Fazer longas caminhadas. A caminhada de Port Isaac até Port Quinn é incrível. É um bocadinho difícil e longa, portanto a Emily levou-nos de carro até Port Quinn e regressou para Port Isaac, ou seja, iniciámos a caminhada em pontos opostos e encontrámo-nos a meio.
Visitar as praias Watergate Bay, Polzeth beach e Rock beach.
Visitar o castelo Tintagel.
Marcar uma massagem no SPA da Cowshed no hotel St. Moritz.
Comer, ler e desconectar.
