Bathroom renovation
Our bathroom is finally done. I mean, ALMOST done! If you notice, we don't have much storage in the bathroom and that's because we haven't yet received the medicine cabinet where we plan to keep all of our beauty products. Unfortunately, Brexit has delayed the delivery of any items coming from abroad. Tired of waiting I just decided to shoot it as it is, I hope you enjoy the transformation.
A nossa casa de banho está finalmente pronta. Quer dizer, QUASE pronta! Se notarem, não temos muita arrumação na casa de banho, infelizmente o Brexit é a razão pela qual ainda não recebemos o armário de parede onde iremos guardar todos os nossos produtos de beleza. Como eu estava fartinha de esperar por ele, decidi fotografar o espaço tal como está. Espero que gostem desta transformação.
The previous bathroom had tiles on all the walls which, in my opinion, is completely unnecessary and also costly. For this reason, we chose to only tile the walls in contact with water and opted for painting the rest (ceiling included) with limewash paint by Bauwerk. I love the effect that this paint creates, the natural texture and the soft shadows generated by the technique used in the painting process give me such peaceful vibes.
A casa de banho anterior tinha azulejos em todas as paredes o que, na minha opinião, é completamente desnecessário para além disso encarece bastante a obra. Escolhemos por esta razão, apenas colocar azulejos nas partes em contato com a água e optámos por pintar o restante (teto incluído) com tinta limewash da marca Bauwerk. Eu adoro o efeito que esta tinta dá às paredes, a textura natural e as suaves sombras criadas pelas técnica utilizada na pintura faz com que, na minha opinião, este espaço tenha um ambiente muito sereno.
The best decision was to increase the window from 50cm to 2m high. Especially in London, where we sometimes spend weeks and weeks without seeing the sun, maximizing natural light at home makes all the difference. Even when it rains, it's beautiful, there's nothing like taking a bath while listening to the rain hit the glass. It's also on these days that I light the candle we have on the wall, one of my favourite details in this bathroom.
A melhor decisão que fizemos neste espaço foi aumentar a janela de 50cm para 2m de altura. Especialmente em Londres, onde por vezes passamos semanas e semanas sem ver o sol, maximizar a luz natural em casa faz toda a diferença. Até mesmo nos dias em que chove é bonito, não há nada como tomar um banho de imersão a ouvir a chuva bater no vidro. É também nesses dias que acendo a vela que temos na parede, um dos meus detalhes preferidos nesta casa-de-banho.
The biggest challenge of this process was having to shower at the neighbours' for 6 weeks. Yes, I do have the best and most generous neighbours ever (THANK YOU EMILY AND JONO)!
O maior desafio deste processo foi realmente ter que tomar banho em casa dos vizinhos durante 6 semanas. Sim, tenho mesmo os melhores e mais generosos vizinhos de sempre (OBRIGADA EMILY E JONO)!
The biggest investment we made was the Studio Ore taps, an extravaganza we have no regrets about. They're made of solid brass and left unlacquered allowing the brass to age naturally and gain a characterful patina.
O maior investimento que fizemos foram as torneiras da Studio Ore, uma extravagância da qual não nos arrependemos nada. São feitas à mão de latão maciço sem qualquer tratamento, o que permite que, em contato com a humidade, fiquem com um ar meio antigo em vez de brilhante.
The most valuable advice I can give you if you are thinking about renovating a bathroom is:
Bathrooms and kitchens are the most expensive renovations you can do in a home. In our case, we had to save money over the two years we’ve been living here before making the changes we are doing now.

Install dimmable lights, there is nothing worse than being dazzled by bright lights while brushing your teeth before bed.
