The importance of sustainable fashion

A little sunshine makes the life of a Londoner a thousand times better. The only drawback is the tube, which, because of how old it is, doesn't have the best cooling system. Apart from that I have to say that there is nothing like this time of year! The parks are filled with people, there are open-air theatres, street parties, the bottles of Pims and Whispering Angel get sold out in pubs, and the scowling faces of the British people win broad smiles. As it's uncertain until when is the sunshine staying I took the liberty of taking a series of pictures wearing some spring looks from a brand that I have mentioned before in here, Sienna Inspo. This is undoubtedly the most fashionable Portuguese brand producing casual summer clothing, period.

Marisa, now my friend and creator of the brand, has an unequaled taste that doesn't go unnoticed, hence why the brand is growing by the day. Her creations, although minimalistic, are very feminine and, without overshadowing, they make the woman who wears them shine! All of her collections are handmade and this is something that I take very much into account these days. With the low-cost fashion flood that comes from the so-called "high street brands" like Zara and H & M, people often find this type of clothing expensive. But what is important to exalt is that this type of independent brands, in this case Sienna, not only care much more about quality but also have a limited production, therefore when we buy something like this we are buying not only durability but also exclusivity.

I must say that many times strangers have approached me on the street whenever I'm wearing an item from Marisa's brand asking where I bought it, considering that the British are particularly shy I think this phenomenon is then a sign that what she is creating is, in fact , special.

Today someone posted on Instagram stories something that resonated with me. The post talked about the fact that at a glance we buy Dr Dre's headphones or Kanye West's new trainers, we follow Oprah's diet plans and obtain tickets for Beyoncé's concert at na exorbitant price but still we show resistance in supporting a smaller business created by a friend, family member or even a stranger. Instead of the usual doubts and judgments in the form of "it won't go anywhere", or "it is very expensive, you will never sell anything", it would be cooler if we showed a bit more of respect and support for those who have the courage to create something of their own and be a small fish in the immensity of the ocean. This post is my way of supporting Marisa that will be this weekend at the Stylista Summer Market in Estoril, Portugal. If you are not in Portugal you can always buy her creations here.

A diferença que um bocadinho de sol faz na vida de um londrino é abismal. O único senão é mesmo o metro que, por ser tão antigo, não tem o melhor sistema de refrigeração. Aparte disso tenho-vos a dizer que não há nada como esta época do ano! Os parques enchem-se de gente, há teatro ao ar livre, festas de rua, as esplanadas estão cheias, esgotam-se as garrafas de Pims e Whispering Angel nos pubs e os rostos carrancudos dos ingleses ganham sorrisos largos. Como não se sabe até quanto é que o sol está para ficar aproveitei para fotografar uma série de looks primaveris com uma marca de que eu já vos falei aqui, Sienna Inspo. Esta é sem dúvida a marca portuguesa mais gira de roupa casual de verão, ponto final.

A Marisa, agora minha amiga e criadora da marca, tem um bom gosto inigualável que não passa despercebido, daí o facto de a marca estar a crescer a olhos visto. As suas criações apesar de minimalistas são bastante femininas e, sem ofuscar, fazem com que a mulher que as veste brilhe! Todas as suas colecções são feitas à mão e isso é algo que eu levo muito em conta nos dias de hoje. Com a enchente de oferta a baixo custo que surge das chamadas high street brands como a Zara e a H&M muitas vezes as pessoas acabam por achar este tipo de roupa caro ou pouco acessível. Mas o que é importante exaltar é que este tipo de marcas independentes, como é o caso da Sienna, não só têm um muito maior cuidado com a qualidade como têm uma produção limitada de peças, ou seja quando compramos algo deste género estamos a comprar não só durabilidade mas também exclusividade.

Se a moda é uma forma de expressão porque é que andamos todos a vestir as mesmas coisas? Muitas são as vezes em que estranhos me abordam na rua quando estou a usar peças da Marisa perguntando onde as comprei, considerando que os Ingleses são muito tímidos julgo que este fenómeno é então um sinal de que o que a Marisa anda a criar é, de facto, especial.

Hoje alguém postou no Instagram um stories que fez ressonância em mim. O post falava sobre o facto de num ápice comprarmos os headphones que o Dr Dre lança ou os novos ténis do Kanye West, de seguirmos os planos de dieta que a Oprah recomenda, ou de adquirirmos bilhetes para o concerto da Beyoncé a um preço exorbitante mas, curiosamente, mostrarmos resistência em apoiar um negócio mais pequeno de um amigo, familiar ou até de um estranho. Em vez das comuns dúvidas e comentários do género “não te metas nisso”, ou “isso é muito caro, nunca irás vender nada”, seria mais fixe que optássemos por apoiar quem tem a coragem de criar algo seu mesmo que este seja ainda um pequeno peixe na imensidão do oceano. O post de hoje é a minha forma de apoiar a marca Sienna que estará este fim-de-semana no Summer Market da Stylista no Estoril em Portugal.
